About Barbara Doll, PE, PhD
Dr. Barbara Doll is a licensed professional engineer with over 20 years of experience in ecological restoration. She teaches professional development workshops and academic courses in fluvial geomorphology and ecological restoration. She has secured and managed more than $7 million in external funding to implement water quality and restoration demonstration projects and conduct research at NC State University. She has conducted design, permitting, bidding and construction oversight for several restoration projects in this role. She obtained and managed $8.5 in funding between 1998 and 2011 for restoration of 6000 feet of highly degraded urban channel.

David Woodie
Currently serves as the Storm Water Services Project Manager for Charlotte/Mecklenburg County Government of Charlotte, NC.  David has over 25 years of professional experience in construction, survey, water resources, bridge/hydraulic design, bmp design, and both bmp/stream construction.  Working through private sector, State and Local Government, David has constructed major highway projects, 140+ Best Management Practices across the state of North Carolina as well as implemented over 30 miles of stream restoration in Mecklenburg County.  David is a Professional Engineer.

 

Sean Saunders
Sean Saunders is an American Fisheries Society Certified Fisheries Professional that has a distinguished career in environmental management and wildlife conservation, primarily through his roles at the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality. Since 2015, he has been serving as the Northwest Arkansas Stream Habitat Coordinator at the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission in Little Rock. In this role, Sean is responsible for surveying, designing, and supervising large scale fish passage barrier removal and stream restoration projects.  Prior to this, from 2012 to 2015, he was a District 10 Water Inspector at the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality, where his duties included water sampling, stormwater inspections, and addressing citizen water quality complaints. Sean has been actively involved in various special projects and environmental initiatives, such as the Lake Harrison Dam Removal Project and the Huntsville Lake Dam Removal Project along with multiple other stream restoration and fish passage barrier removal projects. In addition to his professional endeavors, Sean has been a dedicated member of several boards and committees, including the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service Water Quality Subcommittee and the Multibasin Regional Water Council.  Educationally, Saunders is well-grounded with a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Management and Fisheries from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, completed in 2008, and an Associate of Health Science from Arkansas State University - Beebe, earned in 2005. Sean has also continued his education in stream restoration by completing all 4 levels of Wildland Hydrology, 2 courses by Dave Derrick, and the Canadian Rivers Institute Newbury Riffle course.

John Schwartz
Dr. John Schwartz is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Tennessee – Knoxville, and the Director of the Tennessee Water Resources Research Center.  He joined the CEE Department at UT in 2003 focusing on research in areas of water resources engineering, water quality, and stream restoration.  He received his BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri Columbia in 1982, his MS in Fisheries Science at Oregon State University in 1991, and his PhD from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2002.  In addition to academia, Dr. Schwartz has worked in both the public and private sectors including US EPA in Region 6 in NDDES Enforcement, and Oregon consulting firms.

David Brown
David graduated from Clemson University with a bachelor’s degree in Geology and is a professional geologist with 38 years of experience in environmental consulting, restoration, and regulation. His career spans a wide range of experience in the environmental field working with state and federal agencies and private entities in 32 states. This experience includes both management and technical performance on environmental studies and projects completed under federal and state regulatory agency programs. He joined Jennings Environmental in 2022 following previous employment as a consulting geologist (1986-2008) and environmental regulator (2009-2021) with the US Army Corps of Engineers in Asheville, NC. David considers himself a sojourner in the field of geology and environmental restoration….a jack of lot and expert of some, maybe.

Alan Walker
Alan Walker holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Plant and Soil Science from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.  Alan served 36 years with USDA, NRCS.  He started as a Soil Conservationist and culminated with 6 years as the Assistant State Conservationist for Field Operations in Waynesville, NC. His significant duties included:  providing supervision, guidance, and assistance to the 33 western counties in North Carolina as well as supervising the district conservationists at the field office level, serving as a coach and advisor to the area support staff, coordinating a well-balanced resource conservation program.  He was instrumental in forming a pilot project with federal, state, and a nonprofit partner to accelerate EQIP assistance in western North Carolina.  Alan is continuing to restore streams and wetlands as project manager for Resources Institute, a nonprofit based in Winston-Salem, NC.  He is instrumental in managing the Western NC Stream Initiative.
